🌿 🕊️The « Herons Vert », as they call it 🌿 🕊️The « Herons Vert », as they call it in French, also known as the Green Egret in English!

These small birds, part of the Ardeidae family, are a marvel of nature.

Green herons are one of the few species of bird known to use tools. In particular, they commonly use bread crusts, insects, or other items as bait. The bait is dropped onto the surface of a body of water to lure fish. When a fish takes the bait, the green heron then grabs and eats the fish.

🦎 Introducing the Turnip-Tailed Gecko 🌌 Mee 🦎 Introducing the Turnip-Tailed Gecko 🌌

Meet the fascinating Turnip-Tailed Gecko (Thecadactylus rapicauda), a captivating creature that weaves its unique tale across the landscapes of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Lesser Antilles. This enigmatic gecko, once believed to stand alone in its genus, has a remarkable story to share.

🌎 Range and Distribution:
From the vibrant rainforests of Brazil to the sun-kissed beaches of the Lesser Antilles, the Turnip-Tailed Gecko has made its presence known. This resilient species has carved out a niche from Mexico to Brazil, gracing countless islands and rainforest havens along the way.

🎨 A Palette of Colors:
It boasts a captivating color palette, ranging from delicate pale gray to deep, fiery orange. But that's not all – these geckos are the artists of their own appearance. Their ability to change color is a mesmerizing trait, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings or reveal their true vibrancy.

🎶 A Symphony of Nighttime Chirps:
As the sun dips below the horizon, a symphony of chirps emerges from the darkness. The Turnip-Tailed Gecko is a nighttime virtuoso, vocalizing a series of chirps that pierce the night air. These melodic calls serve a purpose beyond mere music, as they play a role in communication and courtship rituals.

🚩 A Tail of Defense:
One of the most intriguing features of the Turnip-Tailed Gecko is its namesake – the turnip-like tail that sets it apart. This plump tail is not just for show; it's a reservoir of energy stored in the form of fat. Additionally, the gecko waves its tail as a sign of aggression and, when faced with danger, it has the extraordinary ability to shed its tail as a clever distraction tactic against predators.

The Turnip-Tailed Gecko, a master of color, sound, and adaptation, stands as a testament to the incredible diversity of the natural world. As it thrives in the moonlit shadows, it beckons us to explore the mysteries that await under cover of night. Let us continue to marvel at these remarkable creatures that enrich our planet with their presence. 🌍🦎🌌

Exceedingly common on St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barths, this is one of many species historically considered part of the bimaculatus group of anoles found in the northern Lesser Antilles through Dominica and shares some characteristics with anoles of the Greater Antilles. 🌞 🏔️

Recent genetic analysis of these species indicates that the relationships between these species are more complicated than expected, and that A. gingivinus is a sister species to A. bimaculatus, which is found in St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis. 🧬 🦎 🏝️
